Dec. 24, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Chinese stocks ended lower in the morning trading session on Wednesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index declining 0.67%.</p]
The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, lost 12.65 points to close at 1,884.57 points in the morning session.</p]
The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange reduced 0.45% or 31 points to stand at 6,921.91 points.</p]
Market heavy weight PetroChina<601857><857><PTR>, the nation's top oil producer, shrank 1.44% to close at RMB 10.30, while Asia's largest oil refiner Sinopec<600028><386><SNP> dropped 1.63% to RMB 7.23.</p]
The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC)<601398><1398>, the largest of China's Big Four state-owned banks by market value, lost 0.27% to close at RMB 3.67. While another Big Four bank, China Construction Bank (CCB)<601939><939> gained 0.50% to close at RMB 3.99.</p]
China Life Insurance Co<601628><2628><LFC>, the country's largest life insurance company, edged up 1.40% to RMB 19.62, while Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318>, China's second-largest insurer, gained 1.26% to RMB 27.35.</p]
Haitong Securities Co Ltd<600837> lost 3.49% to close at RMB 7.47. CITIC Securities Co Ltd<600030>, the country's most profitable brokerage, decreased 1.44% to RMB 19.18. Changjiang Securities Co.
