Review - Suunto Core
The arrival of the Suunto Core series is very welcome for those of us who have used the Vector in the past. It has all the usual features to be expected including altimeter, barometer, compass, and sports chronograph, which are present in the Vector. The new package is however now much slimmer, and will predict sunrise and sunset times wherever you are in the world.
The weather trend indicator displays the recent barometric variation and a storm alarm will notify you of incoming weather fronts. To top it all, this piece of 'outdoor activity equipment' will also act as a depth meter up to 30ft. Oh, and it tells the time....

Great update to the classic Vector. A must for the modern mountaineer.

Suunto, like many other watchmakers, bases their altimeter measurements off of barometric pressure. To make the reading more accurate, you can enter your current elevation if you know it. This also allows you to customize it, for example, if you want to see how tall a building is, you set the ground floor to 0 ft in altitude and head to the top!

These handy gauges have sunrise/sunset times, thermometer, altimeter (altitude meter), barometer and a compass. The Core also has a built-in weather trend indicator that predicts the weather in three-hour intervals and a storm alarm that warns users about quick drops in the barometric pressure. The watch's screen is large and the digital display is customizable and easy to read in bright or dim light.   If you have a co-worker who has been known to cancel Friday afternoon meetings for hiking, the Suunto Core would make a great gift.

Review of the Suunto Core October 9, 2008 At WatchReport, we're big fans of outdoor watches. We've reviewed several Casio Pathfinders, and today we have the Suunto Core Light Green. There are eight Core models, differing in case design and coloration. I chose the Light Green for both functional and aesthetic reasons - it's the lightest of the bunch, with aluminum bezel and vented rubber strap, and I prefer normal black-on-white LCDs to the negative variant. The Core is an altimeter/baromet

I wear an old Suunto Observer that I received as a bday present a couple of years ago. Nice looking watch. I get lots of compliments. Great for the city. Really has no business in the mountains. Mostly because it's stainless steel, so it weighs a ton and feels like you're wearing an ice cube when it gets cold outside. But the real problem is feature creep. The watch does so many things, that unless you commit all the functions to memory, it's pretty much a guessing game half the time. The only thing I end up using is the altimeter, and that's if I remember how to set the base elevation. But maybe the Finnish are just smarter than me. The Huber brothers definitely are, since they seem to have had no problem during their El Cap speed record climb using their Suunto Core watches:
